Award Title

Mr Neil Solomon, who introduced the Outdoor Pursuits and Post-Matric programmes to Treverton, instituted this unique and exclusive club. It is based upon other crazy awards around the world where people brave frigid waters. This experience is said to aid in the body's immunity against illness due to an increase in antioxidant production in the body. So if for nothing else, do it for your health!

Requirements

  1. On every Wedneday morning of the school year (terms 1-4) at 5:45am you must:
    • Swim a width of the school dam during summer terms
    • Get totally immersed in the school dam during winter terms (must swim around the jetty)
  2. If you are sick then excuse yourself personally from the MIC with an official sick note and attend catch-up sessions when you are able.
    • If you miss sessions due to official school activities then you are counted as having been at that session.
    • If you miss 8 sessions or less due to official medical reasons (and were not able to attend catch-up sessions because of the official medical reasons), you may complete Polar Bear in Term 1 of the following year.
    • If the above occurs, you only need to attend the number of sessions that you missed, but you must do this in Term 1.
    • If you miss more than 8 sessions in a year, regardless of whether it was due to official medical reasons, you need to restart Polar Bear the following year.
    • Polar Bear begins after the New Pupils Concert.
    • If the start of a school term falls on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, there is no Polar Bear that week.
    • After half-terms, if school begins on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, there is Polar Bear that week.
Only two catch-up session will be arranged per term - if you miss them you are out!
